Serve
Serve
In the Episcopal Church, worship is the work of the people. At St. B’s, we believe that liturgy is a shared act, with both clergy and lay members participating in meaningful ways.
Here are some of the ways you can serve in worship and hospitality:
Altar Teams
The altar team includes clergy, acolytes, and Lay Eucharistic Ministers.
Acolytes (children, youth, and adults) assist with lighting candles, carrying the cross, and receiving offerings.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers help distribute Holy Communion and lead portions of the service, including the Prayers of the People.
Guilds
We have two active guilds:
Altar Guild – Prepares the worship space by setting linens, cleaning vessels, and maintaining candles and brass.
Flower Guild – Creates beautiful altar arrangements. Volunteers typically serve once a month.
Lectors
Lectors are adults and older children who read Scripture aloud during worship. Readers are usually scheduled about once a quarter.
Intercessors
Prayer teams are available during communion at each service. Intercessors offer prayers of thanksgiving and petition and often lay hands on those who come forward.
Ushers
Ushers offer a warm welcome, distribute bulletins, assist with the offertory and communion, and provide directions as needed.
Audio/Visual Team
Led by our part-time staff member, Matthew Shepherd, our A/V team manages livestreaming and sound for Sunday services and other special events. Experience is helpful, but training is available.
Welcome Teams
Our Welcome Teams create an inviting environment each Sunday by greeting guests, preparing and serving coffee, and offering directions. Serving on a Welcome Team is a great way to build community and extend hospitality.
