Justice Ministries
At St. B’s, we are committed to living out our Baptismal promise to “strive for justice and peace among all people and respect the dignity of every human being” (Book of Common Prayer, p. 305).
We do this through formation, advocacy, and action.
Formation
Becoming Beloved Community – St. B’s joins the Episcopal Church’s national initiative for racial healing and justice.
Adult Formation Series – Recent offerings include The Nashville You Need to Know, featuring local leaders discussing housing, transportation, and education equity.
Justice Conversations – Evening forums have included topics like voting rights, residential segregation, and criminal justice reform.
Sacred Ground – Over 60 parishioners have completed this powerful 11-week dialogue series on race and faith.
Pilgrimages – Groups have visited Montgomery’s Legacy Museum and participated in local Civil Rights commemorations.
Advocacy
We partner with NOAH (Nashville Organized for Action and Hope) — a diverse coalition of congregations and nonprofits working for systemic change. St. B’s members are invited to join NOAH task forces on:
Affordable Housing
Transformational Justice
Economic Equity & Transportation
Education
In 2025 we chose to concentrate our efforts on the Education Task Force to align with our reparative justice efforts described below.
Reparative Justice
Through our Formation classes we regularly introduce ways that attendees can connect what they learn to tangible action in the community, and many St B's members have made meaningful commitments to various community organizations that move justice forward. Additionally, the church has partnered with Head Middle School and provides volunteer and financial support to the students, teachers and staff.
