At St. Bartholomew, our Mission & Outreach (M&O) ministry knows that sometimes the most profound expressions of God's love come through the simplest acts of care. That truth drives our partnership with ShowerUp Nashville, a mobile ministry that brings dignity directly to those who need it most. What started as a family wondering how to offer a "hug" instead of just a "handshake" has become a movement that proves that clean water and genuine care can restore hope to the hopeless.
Rolling Sanctuary
ShowerUp's mobile shower units travel throughout Nashville, offering private, comfortable "shower suites" with hot water, clean towels, and all the personal care items that most of us take for granted. But this isn't just about hygiene. For someone who may not have had access to a shower in weeks or months, stepping into that clean, safe space becomes a moment of restoration that goes far beyond the physical.
Each guest receives not only a shower but also hygiene supplies, clean socks and underwear, and something even more valuable: human connection and dignity. Volunteers create welcoming environments where people experiencing homelessness are treated as the beloved children of God they are.
This is Matthew 10:42 in action: "And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward."
Why This Matters to Us
In Nashville, there are about 4,000 people experiencing homelessness, yet fewer than a dozen shower heads are available to serve them. ShowerUp fills this critical gap, understanding that access to basic hygiene isn't just about health, it's about preserving human dignity and opening doors to employment, housing, and hope.

How St. B's Members Can Get Involved
Shower Prep Crew: Clean and prepare showers between guests (2-3 hour shifts)
Table Team: Distribute shower kits, towels, socks, underwear, and hygiene supplies
Shower List: Manage guest sign-up and let people know when their turn arrives
Treat Team: Bring and distribute drinks, snacks, and treats to guests
Individual volunteers: Sign up directly through their online portal
Group volunteers: Contact Chris@ShowerUp.org to coordinate group service
No experience necessary, and families with children are welcome
Financial Partnership
