Homeschool Tutorial

The St. B’s Homeschool Tutorial began in 2014 as a ministry for St. B's families who homeschool their elementary-aged children. Through a Montessori-based curriculum, the children gather every Tuesday and Thursday during the school year from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to study physical and cultural geography, science, writing, art and scripture (via Catechesis of the Good Shepherd).

Each learner responds to lessons in ways that are most meaningful to them and chooses individual independent work. Units of study this year include investigations of six continents, the systems of the human body, electricity and magnetism, weather, and life cycles of living things.

Hallmark Events

Some hallmark events of our year include Montessori's Five Great Lessons, content related field trips, guest speakers and in-house field trips (Wild Animals, Fisk/Vanderbilt Planetarium Show, NPL Puppet truck, etc), a Thanksgiving Feast, Praying with the labyrinth, World Day, a Retiree Luncheon and serving together at Room in the Inn.

As the children and teachers learn together, they are witnesses to God's love and creativity in the natural world, in other cultures, in members of our own St. B's family and in each other!
