Reverend Serena

The Rev. Serena Sides became Interim Rector in February 2022, upon the departure of Fr. Sammy Wood. Rev. Serena joined us as Associate Rector in January 2021 and will return to this role upon the calling of a new Rector. She came to St. B's after serving briefly at St. Augustine’s Chapel at Vanderbilt University and previously as the full-time Assistant Rector at Christ Church on Capitol Hill in Washington DC. A life-long Episcopalian, Reverend Serena comes to the priesthood as a second career. She practiced corporate law and worked in national security for 14 years in New York City and Washington, DC, before discerning a call to the priesthood. She was ordained to the priesthood in June 2017 at the Washington National Cathedral. She and her family moved from Washington DC to Nashville TN in August 2019 when her husband, John Sides, took a position as Professor of Political Science at Vanderbilt University. Serena and John have two school children, Ethan (15) and Hannah (13). Reverend Serena enjoys the nearby hiking trails, reading fiction, baking desserts, walking their dog Coco, rooting for the UNC Tarheels, and attending her children’s many ice hockey games.
