Youth Formation

The purpose of St. B’s Youth Formation is to make space for teenagers within the St. B’s family to learn to love God, themselves, and others in the way of Jesus. Our vision is for every teenager in the St. B’s family to belong here, to be known here, and to know that they are beloved by God and called by God. We move toward this by welcoming the Spirit, studying scripture, worshiping with our liturgy, and playing well together.

Sunday Mornings | 10:30 - 11:30 am

During the School Year

Most Sunday mornings during the school year, our 7 - 12th gather downstairs in the youth room for Messages.

Messages is a gathering that includes lectionary-based readings, activities, conversation, and prayer. Through these things we look for how the Old Testament reading connects to the Gospel reading, and how both connect to the lives of our teenagers and volunteers.

The gathering ends by 11:30 am so the youth can join

their families in the sanctuary for communion.

Note: The youth room opens on Sundays at 9:45 am for bagels, doughnuts, ping pong, knitting, and hanging out.

Wednesdays | 6:30 - 8 pm during the school year

Midweek happens on most Wednesdays through the school year. Though our topics of discussion change seasonally, our gatherings always include time to play and always concludes with Compline (night prayer) in the sanctuary or outside. Supper happens at 5:30 pm. and Youth Music at 6 pm.

Youth Music

Wednesdays | 6 - 6:30 pm
During the school year

This gathering is for any singers and instrumentalists in grades 7- 12 who would like to explore and develop their musical gifts (vocal or instrumental). St. B's Director of Music, David Madeira and loft singer, Mary Grace Shuster will help interested youth work on songs, learn to read chord charts, and discuss various aspects of making music together and leading worship. For more information and to sign up, please contact David Madeira at

Sundays | 5 - 7 pm during Lent and Easter

In the course of their Christian development, those baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop.

Youth Confirmation at St. B's is taught by Fr. Sammy and Hughes McGlone, Director of Youth Formation. The class includes dinner, conversation, and an exploration of the Episcopal Church, the sacramental rite of Confirmation, and what it means to take ownership of our baptismal covenant and have a mature faith. At the conclusion of the class, participants will be invited to receive the sacramental rite of Confirmation during the Bishop's visitation, usually in June.

Other Gatherings

Periodically we gather as a youth community outside of Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. Pet-washing, the Super Bowl, bowling, Mardi Gras, and diocesan events are just a few of the ways we continue to get to know each other and participate in the wider church.
