Youth Formation

The purpose of St. B’s Youth Formation is to make space for teenagers within the St. B’s family to learn to love God, themselves, and others in the way of Jesus. Our vision is for every teenager in the St. B’s family to belong here, to be known here, and to know that they are beloved by God and called by God. We move toward this by welcoming the Spirit, studying scripture, worshiping with our liturgy, and playing well together.

Sunday Mornings | 10 - 10:50 a.m.

During the School Year

Most Sunday mornings during the school year, our 7 - 12th gather downstairs in the youth room for Messages. Here we discuss issues relevant to the Episcopal Church, the Bible, and our lives. Our time begins with music, followed by conversation, announcements and prayer. We conclude with another song.

Most Sundays during the school year in the youth room

4:30 - 6:30 p.m. | 7th and 8th grades

6 - 8 p.m. | 9th - 12th grades

All grades will share a meal together at 6 p.m. in Wallace Hall

Our lives move in what seems like a hundred miles an hour in a hundred different directions. School, sports, friends, drama, dance, family, all compete for our time and attention. Sabbath is a gathering for all 7 - 12th grades to step away from the busyness and step towards rest and the peace that passes all understanding. Here we will talk, eat, play, sing, pray, and consider what it means to be a follower of Christ in the community and the world.

Our time together begins with a game followed by music. Then we will reflect creatively and conversationally on the scriptures and closing with evening prayer or compline. We ask that families partner up to bring dinner once a semester.

Monthly Missions

2nd Saturdays
During the school year

Part of our life together as a community of teens and adults includes service. Generally we will meet the second Saturday of every month for a service or mission opportunity. We'll work alongside organization including Room In The Inn, Open Table Nashville, St. Luke's, etc.

In the course of their Christian development, those baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop.

Youth Confirmation at St. B's is taught by Fr. Sammy and Hughes McGlone, Director of Youth Formation. The class includes an exploration of the Episcopal Church, the sacramental rite of Confirmation, and what it means to take ownership of our baptismal covenant and have a mature faith. At the conclusion of the class, participants will be invited to receive the sacramental rite of Confirmation during the Bishop's visitation, usually in June.

Other Gatherings

Periodically we gather as a youth community beyond our regular routine of Messages and Sabbath. Pet-washing, the Super Bowl, bowling, Mardi Gras, ski-trip and diocesan events are just a few of the ways we continue to get to know each other and participate in the wider church.

  • Episcopalooza | September 29 | 4-7 p.m.

This is the Fall Diocesan gathering, Episcoplalooza. Join other 7th - 12th graders from across the Diocese for games, fellowship, worship, and dinner as we play and pray together. What a great opportunity to get to know other Episcopal teens from our area and what an honor to host them on our beautiful campus.
