What is an outdoor sanctuary?
Like a garden the church speaks through all the cycles of life and all that they entail – birth, death, joy, sorrow, celebrating relationships with each other and with God. The outdoor sanctuary is an expanded and additional area for our church community to experience these cycles together. It is an outdoor space comprised of: a fellowship area, meditation garden, walkway from the sacristy to the narthex of the church, and a columbarium.
Why an outdoor sanctuary?
The outdoor sanctuary will provide a beautiful space for worship, fellowship, and other countless gatherings for our community.
The outdoor sanctuary will provide a facility that “facilitates” the changing needs of our congregation – spiritually, emotionally and physically. We have a unique opportunity to use not only our physical buildings to serve God, our congregation, and our neighbors but to use the outside area as well.
Uses for an outdoor sanctuary?
A more developed outdoor space will be used for fellowship, dinners, worship services, weddings, receptions, celebrations, anniversaries, as well as a space created for private meditation, prayer and smaller functions.
How can you be part of the creation of an outdoor sanctuary at St. B's?
Purchase an engraved stone paver for $60. These stones may be in honor of friends, family, pets, Sunday school teachers, ministers and other significant people in your life. They may also commemorate special days such as birthdays, anniversaries, baptisms and weddings, as well as, meaningful ministries.
There will also be several large trees planted within the outdoor sanctuary. These may be purchased in honor or memory of a person or special event.
As money is raised from the sale of the pavers and trees, the facilities committee will in turn apply the funds toward the completion of the entire outdoor sanctuary. This will be done in phases as monies are raised.
